Successful day of carpet & rug cleaning in Bristol

The start of a new week saw two of our technicians spend the whole of Monday in Bristol cleaning a large range of carpets, rugs & doormats for a domestic customer. Thankfully there were no heavy stains or anything of particular concern, just general soiling from a busy household.

Starting with the rugs, the first step in the cleaning process is to pre-test them. This is to establish the materials that the rug is made from but also to check for dye-fastness, as we certainly don’t want any colours to run during the clean!

Once this has been done & the technicians know exactly what they are working with, the rugs are placed on tarpaulins to protect the floor & are then thoroughly vacuumed front & back to remove any surface debris.

IMG 20240220 WA0008

Next, any notable stains are treated & an eco-sanitising pre-spray is applied. These solutions are then given time to dwell to help breakdown as much soiling as possible.

Our technician then gently agitates the rug which works the cleaning solutions & hot water into the rug whilst continuing to break up any stubborn soiling.

The final part of the clean is the traditional rinse extraction. This is where the cleaning solutions, hot water & remaining soiling are extracted from the rug.

The cleaning process was then repeated many times over as the customer had 8 rugs & 5 doormats to be cleaned!

As there were so many to be cleaned & our technicians were there all day, they used an air mover to help speed up the drying process.

Once the rugs were cleaned & left to dry, it was time to start on the carpet cleaning. The exact same cleaning method used for the rugs was also used on the carpets.

The cleaning method used on the rugs, doormats & carpets represents a full deep-clean and was also a green clean.

Successful Commercial carpet clean at Longleat

Another week, another visit to Longleat for our technician, Joanne. This time it was to clean the carpet in the sweet shop, we have cleaned this before, but due to the huge amount of footfall this shop receives, it requires a professional deep clean a few times a year.

The carpet in the sweet shop doesn’t look like carpet at all. It is a material called Flotex, which is a completely synthetic material that can be printed on to give it many different appearances. Owing to the huge number of fibres per metre on Flotex, it is able to conceal an enormous soil-load

WhatsApp Image 2024 01 22 at 14.55.39 01ad1311
WhatsApp Image 2024 01 22 at 14.55.43 d5788f44

Effective vacuuming will remove up to 79% of dry soils, so this was an important first stage of our cleaning process.

An eco-friendly pre-spray was then applied to the floor before our technician used a rotary machine & a CRB (contra-rotating brush) machine to agitate the cleaning solution & further break up any stubborn soiling, this helps ensure that the rinse extraction draws out as much as the debris as possible.

WhatsApp Image 2024 01 22 at 14.55.50 07e066ab

Lastly, an encapsulating solution was applied & brushed into the carpet using the rotary agitation machine, this aids carpet maintenance as it surrounds each soil particle and crystallizes it so it can’t attract other soils. The encapsulated soil particles release from the carpet fibres and are then removed by normal vacuuming, which will generally be done by the on site cleaning staff at regularly scheduled times.

The carpet was certainly looking cleaner as a result of Joanne’s hard work & was all ready to welcome the next lot hungry customers to the shop.

Outstanding results on commercial carpet clean in Cheltenham

A few weeks before Christmas, we were contacted by a hostel in Cheltenham who were thinking about having the carpets cleaned in the communal areas. With any commercial enquires like this, we always recommend arranging for one of our trained technicians to come out & conduct a short survey before suppling you with a quote. This enables us to assess the condition & specific requirements of the carpets which means we can tailor the clean to suit your business needs & provide you with a comprehensive quote.

Within a week of the initial enquiry, our technician Pete visited the property & carried out a survey of all the carpets & provided the business with two separate quotes as they were deciding how they wanted to tackle the clean.

They decided to go ahead with having all the communal carpets cleaned rather than just the ground floor, and this week, less than 1 month from making contact, Pete returned with the help of Mike to carry out the clean.

The brief was to clean all 4.5 floors of stairs & hallways, most of which were heavily stained.

Commercial Carpet Cleaning

Communal area carpets endure a high level of wear over time. Outdoor soiling is tracked in on shoes, spills occur & because the space is no single persons responsibility, the dirt rapidly accumulates. This was certainly the case here, due to the heavy footfall & the magnitude of some of the staining on these carpets, a traditional rinse extraction was the method used to deliver the best possible results.

The first step in the process is to use a commercial vacuum to thoroughly vacuum the carpets to remove as much surface debris as possible.

Next, any notable stains are treated & an eco-sanitising pre-spray is applied to the carpets. These solutions are then given time to dwell in-order to break down the soiling.

Once sufficient time has elapsed for the stain treatments to have worked, the rotary agitation machine is used to gently agitate the carpets using hot water & cleaning solutions. This provides a thorough clean & also helps bring loosened soiling to the surface ready for rinse extraction.

The final part of the cleaning process is the traditional rinse extraction. This is where all the remaining soiling, water & cleaning solutions are removed from the carpets. As you can see from the photos either side, this tried & tested cleaning method bought out some truly amazing results.

Great results on commercial carpets & upholstery in Cheltenham

On Tuesday evening, two of our technicians were booked to clean commercial carpets & upholstery at The Brewery Quarter in Cheltenham. This was the result of a successful survey back in September which enabled us to provide the company with a quote & cleaning plan tailored to their requirements.

The brief was to clean seven short flights of stairs, plus all the small landings & turns in-between plus two large landings. As you can imagine these areas have a lot of foot traffic & would certainly benefit from a professional deep clean.

The first step (pardon the pun!) was to thoroughly vacuum all of these areas to remove any surface debris before they applied stain treatments & eco-sanitising pre-spray to them. These solutions were then given time to dwell so that they can break down & loosen as much dirt, grease & stains as possible.

The next step is to use rotary agitation to further loosen any remaining soiling as well as working the cleaning solutions into the carpets to allow for a rigorous clean.

The final part of our cleaning process is the traditional rinse extraction. This is where we use hot water to extract any remaining soiling or product residue from the carpets.

Once the carpets had been successfully tackled, it was time to start work on the upholstery. There were seven office chairs with a heavy soil load that were subject to the above cleaning method to ensure a good level of clean.

Once the clean was successfully completed, the carpets & upholstery were left to dry naturally overnight so everything was clean & dry for the office workers to return the following day. Upon completion, all of the carpets & upholstery have received the full professional cleaning method & have been sanitised, deodorised & left more resistant to staining as part of the process

Great results on a commercial carpet clean in Gloucester

Our Gloucester based technician visited these commercial premises at the end of October to survey some of their office carpets. Following on from that successful survey, Pete went back last week & spent a few hours carrying out the commercial carpet clean.

The boardroom carpet was the first part of the job that Pete tackled. As you can see from the adjacent photo, that were quite a few soiled areas from shoes around the table & the carpet in general was in need of a thorough clean.

After starting the cleaning process by using a commercial vacuum to pick up as much surface soiling as possible, Pete then applied stain treatments & eco-sanitising pre spray to the carpet.

Once these had been given time to dwell, Pete used the rotary agitation machine to gently agitate the cleaning solutions into the carpet and help bring any soiling to the surface.

The final part of the cleaning process is the traditional rinse extraction of the carpets. This is where all the remaining water, cleaning solutions & debris are removed from the carpet leaving them cleaner, fresher & sanitised.

Next up was to tackle the stairs, as you can see from the photos, these had been subjected to a high amount of foot traffic & were certainly in need of a deep clean.

The cleaning process that Pete used in the boardroom was repeated on the stairs & produced some great results.

Portishead Flood restoration & Carpet Repair

A slow escape of water from an adjoining bathroom had caused black mould beneath the bath, as well as brown water damage to the carpet. We were asked to attend this apartment near the waterfront in Portishead last week in order to put things right. Although we wouldn’t classify this as a flood, it serves as another example of how water can cause damage to absorbent materials over time.

Assessing moisture levels

The first step here was to lift the carpet & underlay to determine how wet the sub-floor was. There would be no point fixing the issues with the other elements, but just sweeping under the carpet any underlying damp issues. Our team use a variety of Tramex moisture meters to assess levels of moisture in a variety of surfaces. In this case, we were dealing with a wood composite sub-floor.

Flood restoration in Portishead

In this image, you can see that we’ve stripped out the damaged underlay. Unlike carpet, underlay cannot be decontaminated & fully cleaned.

We then inserted a metal probe into the boards to discover whether they were in danger of secondary damage.

The meter here shows a moisture content of 16%. This is slightly above the norm for this material, but below the threshold for structural damage.

Without moisture measurements, we would look for the physical signs of water damage – browning, a breakdown in structure or mould growth.

Repairing the minor damage

The damp underlay was removed and the rotten gripper rods lifted out. Once this was complete, the subfloor and area beneath the bath (in the adjoining bathroom) were cleaned of mould & an anti-fungal solution applied.

Now we were able to install new gripper rods and underlay into the area.

Decontaminating the affected carpet

Now that the sub-floor, underlay and gripper rods were cleaned and replaced, the carpet could be re-fitted and cleaned. The type of water damage evident on the carpet suggested that it might not revert to its former state, but it was worth a try. We set up the rinse extraction machine on the floor below and ran hoses up to the affected room.

After a biocidal detergent had been applied to the carpet, we used a small hand tool to carefully rinsed the reinstalled carpet. The results were not great –

Portishead carpet repair service

The carpet had been permanently damaged by the ongoing leak & was not going to improve further.

At this stage, we discussed the possibility of a carpet repair.

Replacing the damaged carpet

There was plenty of spare carpet available in various cupboards in the home, so we decided to proceed with a repair.

Carpet repairs tend to be small, whereas this one would need to be 110cm long –

Cutting carpet requires a lot of measuring to ensure an accurate and regular hole is available for the insertion of new material.

A sharp blade is also essential. Without this, the edge of the cut is likely to cause the carpet to tear or fray. This will mean that the repair is unlikely to last long.

Once the damaged carpet had been carefully excised, we measured the replacement carpet and cut it as precisely as possible to ensure a close fit.

Heat seaming tape was inserted around the hole and the new carpet carefully lowered in.

We then applied steam through the carpet to bond the existing carpet to the insert.

Successful team work on Upholstery & Carpet cleaning in Bristol

Earlier this week, Pete & Tom spent most of the day working together on some upholstery & carpet cleaning at a residential address in Bristol. The customer had a vast array of upholstery for cleaning as well as some carpets that needed a little attention after a few potty training incidents!

First up was this large faux velvet sofa, as you can see in this picture, Tom is giving it a thorough vacuum to remove as much surface debris as possible.

Next, he will treat any stains that he can see as well as using a eco-sanitising pre spray, these solutions are then given time to dwell to help break up as much soiling & residue as possible.

The upholstery is then gently agitated to work the cleaning solutions & hot water into the fabric to ensure a deep clean.

The final part of the process is the traditional rinse extraction (sometimes known as steam cleaning). This is where all the remaining soiling, products & water are extracted from the upholstery. The sofa is then left to dry naturally.

Whilst Tom was cleaning the sofa shown above, Pete was carrying out the same process on this large cream corner sofa. There were a few more cushions on this one though!

Continuing with the upholstery clean, next up were a selection of armchairs. As before the same cleaning process was used & thankfully the stain treatment worked really well on the stained seat areas of these chairs.

Once all the upholstery had been cleaned & left to dry, it was time to tackle the carpets. On this occasion is was 4 bedroom carpets that needed to be cleaned, with particular attention to some potty training related odours in one bedroom.

The cleaning method followed that of the upholstery cleaning & was a combination of the following:

  • Dry extraction/vacuuming
  • Spot/stain treatments, as necessary
  • Eco-sanitising pre-spray
  • Rotary agitation
  • Traditional rinse extraction (sometimes called steam cleaning)

Due to the reported odours, an odour neturalising solution was applied to the offending carpet. This is an environmentally friendly solution that is highly effective against odours associated with bodily fluids.

Fabulous results on a commercial clean in Bath

We were recently contacted by the manager of a local branch of Specsavers, as they were interested in having the carpets & hard flooring cleaned in the store. As with most commercial enquires, it benefits to conduct a short survey so we can determine the condition & specific requirements of the flooring. We can then provide you with a comprehensive quote & a cleaning plan tailored to each job. All surveys are carried out by our trained technicians.

Following on from a successful survey, two of our technician returned this week to carry out the clean after the shop had closed to carry out a deep clean of the carpets & amtico flooring.

Our technicians made a start in the exam rooms at the rear of the premises which were all carpeted.

The cleaning process includes;

Dry extraction/vacuuming – All the carpets are thoroughly vacuumed using a commercial vacuum cleaner to remove as much surface debris as possible.

Spot/stain treatments – Any visible stains are treated & the solutions are given time to dwell so that they can break down as much of the stain as possible.

WhatsApp Image 2023 11 03 at 10.01.58 7169b8b6

The next step in the carpet cleaning process is;

Eco-sanitising pre-spray – This is applied to all of the carpets & as above, it is given time to dwell to assist further with the breakdown on stains & residues.

Rotary Agitation – This was carried out using a machine that gently agitates the carpets whilst delivering hot water & cleaning solutions deep into the carpet to provide a thorough clean.

The last step of the process is then the traditional rinse extraction, sometimes known as steam cleaning. The extraction machine removes all the remaining soiling, water & solutions from the carpet. This process represents a full deep clean which leaves the carpets cleaner, fresher & sanitised whilst still being a green clean.

Once the carpet clean had been completed, it was time to move onto the hard flooring which in this instance was amtico flooring. Amtico is a type of vinyl flooring although it is manufactured differently to standard vinyl flooring. The finished article often has a close resemblance to wood or stone.

As you can see in this photo, it is a wood effect floor which due to a high volume of foot traffic through the store had a high volume of soling ingrained into it.

The cleaning process for a hard floor such as this follows the same method listed above for carpet cleaning. However when it comes to the rotary agitation aspect, a soft brush or pad is attached to the bottom of the machine.

Commercial Hard floor cleaning in Bath

On this occasion it was a soft brush that was attached which gently washes the floor using the cleaning solutions.

As some of the next few photos show, a high level of soiling was removed from these floors which resulted in an impressive difference.

Outstanding results, well done team!

Superb carpet cleaning at Thornbury Castle

It is always nice when you get repeat business, so it was lovely to head back to Thornbury Castle in Bristol to carry out some carpet cleaning earlier this week.

Following a successful survey carried out by one of our trained technicians back in July, this week saw a team of 3 clean the carpets in the dining room, hallway & bedroom.

This beautiful castle was once owned by Henry VIII & although the carpets are not quite that old, they still needed some tlc to get them back to looking their best!

These stunning wool carpets get a lot of footfall so our traditional rinse extraction method of cleaning was best suited to achieve optimal results.

WhatsApp Image 2023 09 27 at 09.35.32.4

The process starts with preparing the carpets by thoroughly vacuuming them to lift any surface debris, we then treat any stains that we see, allowing the solutions time to dwell to help the break down of any stubborn soiling.

Next, we apply an eco-sanitising pre-spray before using a rotary agitation machine to gently agitate the carpets & bring any remaining soiling to the surface.

Once all of the above steps have been followed, the carpets are ready for the final part of the process which is the traditional rinse extraction (steam cleaning).

This removes any remaining water, cleaning products & soiling from the carpets. Sometimes if the carpets have shown significant soiling then we may repeat this part of the process to ensure we achieve the best results.

Here is a great little video showing some of the team carrying out the rinse extraction part of the cleaning process.

You may notice the use of air-movers in this video, due to this being a commercial premises we had these running to speed up the drying process so that the customers could use the rooms as soon as possible.

Hugely successful commercial team clean at Hartpury College

Back in April, we were contacted by Hartpury University & College based in Gloucester enquiring about commercial carpet cleaning for their accommodation blocks. It was arranged for one of our technicians to go & conduct a survey of the carpets, as a setting that has approx. 4,000 students, there was a lot of ground to cover. For such a large scale job, a survey was imperative & allowed us to put together a comprehensive quote & plan in place. A job of this size also required a whole team effort which meant that by contacting us months before they required the cleaning, it allowed us the time to arrange this with ease.

Our first day of the team clean was on the 20th July, this was the start of 14 scheduled visits across 3 months. Each visit had a varying amount of technicians based on the size of which accommodation block they were cleaning that day.

The team quickly found their groove, deciding that the most effective way of tackling the carpets was by splitting into two teams & dividing each block into two. Not only was this a little less daunting than tackling whole blocks on their own but also was more time effective.

WhatsApp Image 2023 07 26 at 10.48.45

The process involved with cleaning the carpets here was a low moisture clean (or encapsulation) which can be highly effective on medium to lightly soiled carpets. It delivers a good level of cleaning with quick drying times of less than an hour.

The first step is thoroughly vacuuming the carpets with an industrial vacuum to pick up as much dry soiling & particles as possible, then the technicians will then treat any stains that they see.

Next is the application of the encapsulation solution which is given time to dwell to help lift any stubborn soiling before a low moisture bonnet clean using the rotary machine.

This final step lifts the moisture & soiling with special bonnet pads that are attached to the bottom of the rotary machine. This type of clean leaves the carpets cleaner, fresher & more resistant to staining.
