This week started off with a deep clean of a tired looking quarry stone floor in Frome. As with any hard floor enquiry, we carried out a short survey earlier this month so that we could see exactly what the customer had & discuss with them what they were looking to achieve. We were really pleased that they accepted our quote & yesterday our technician Jake spent a solid 5 hours carrying out the clean.

When we initially carried out the survey, Jake performed a test clean on a couple of the tiles so that we could see how well the tiles would respond to cleaning & get an idea of how heavy the soil load was. The test showed that the tiles were in poor condition however they did respond really well to the test clean which was a really positive sign!

When Jake arrived yesterday, he set to work by giving the floor a thorough sweep & vacuum. This removes any surface debris in preparation for applying the cleaning solutions. These solutions are then applied using the rotary agitation machine which applies gentle pressure to the floor via a cleaning pad attached to the bottom of the machine. Once the floor has been agitated, the cleaning products are left to dwell to help breakdown any stubborn soiling.

Whilst the rotary agitation machine will help lift some soiling from the grout lines, it is not going to do a thorough job. This can only be done with a grout brush which involves the technician manually cleaning these areas to achieve the best results.

All of the resulting slurry is then removed using a wet vac. Depending on the level of soil load on the floor, this step in the process is sometimes repeated.

The floor is then rinsed & the wet vac used again to ensure all the soiling, water & cleaning solutions are removed.

An air-mover is then used to force dry the floor ready for sealing.

Once the tiles are completely dry, Jake applied a few coats of Ecoprotec Impregnating Seal. This type of seal does not change the appearance of the tiles, they retain their natural look but it does offer protection against water & oil based staining.

The customers flooring was looking much cleaner & fresher as a result of Jake’s hard work, another great result!
