We were recently contacted by a customer in Clifton who was enquiring about having the wooden floor in her galley kitchen refurbished, as with all enquires of this nature, we arrange for one of our trained technicians to call out to the customer & conduct a short survey. We like to survey all hard flooring as this helps us determine the condition & specific requirements of the floor & also allow us to carry out the following checks as necessary;

  • Assessment of type of flooring & grout
  • Assessment of damp levels & sub-floor
  • Test clean & strip (if needed) of discrete sample area
  • Application of finishing seals (to help you decide what type of new finish you might require)

Following on from the successful survey, our technician spent a few days this week carrying out the sanding & refinishing. As you can see from this picture, the floor was very worn with obvious signs of where the majority of the footfall was in the kitchen. As this was a tight space, it was an ideal job for just one technician.

To start the process, we use a dustless belt sander to ensure the floor is level & remove all signs of any previous finishes that have been applied to the floor. Using this machine also ensures a high quality finish whilst creating a clean & virtually dustless working environment.

The belt sander will get the majority of a wooden floor sanded back, but won’t reach into the edges of a room. This is where an edge sander is used. We use a Pallman Edge Sander paired with a high power, filtering vacuum to ensure minimal dust.

This machine can reach right up to the skirting boards & has high powered lights so we can clearly see what we are doing to deliver a high quality finish.

Once all the sanding has been completed & the floor is completely dust free, it is time to apply the finish. On this occasion, the customer had requested a natural look to the overall finish.

First a primer is applied, followed by 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD (Matt). This delivers a light, natural look with a commercial level of toughness.

As you can see from these comparison photos, the dramatic difference between these photos shows what a huge improvement this process can make to your wooden floors. A fantastic result by our technician, Pete!
