Stunning results on Travertine tiled floor in Cheltenham

A productive day, well spent for two of our technicians, Pete & Mike this week when they cleaned & polished a travertine tiled floor that ran throughout a customers kitchen, diner & utility room in Cheltenham. Travertine is a type of limestone which often has a textured surface which can accumulate soil over time making them look dull & tired.

The first step in the cleaning process is to prepare the floor which means manually sweeping & vacuuming the floor to pick up as much surface debris as possible.

IMG 20240306 WA0002
IMG 20240306 WA0003

Once this has been done, it is time to apply an environmentally friendly stone cleaning solution to the travertine & use a rotary machine to gently agitate the floor & give it a thorough clean.

IMG 20240306 WA0005

Next, a wet vac was used to pick up the resulting slurry & this step of the process is then repeated to ensure the maximum amount of soiling is removed. It was then time for the technicians to get on their hands & knees to manually clean the grout using a grout brush.

Once the tile & grout clean has been completed, the technicians used air-movers to completely dry the floor ready for the polish to be applied. On this occasion, 2 coats of impregnating seal were applied to the tiles, this is because they are particularly absorbent & applying multiple coats protects the floor from spillages & build ups.

As you can see from these photos, the floor was looking much cleaner & brighter & the finish of the polish makes them look fabulous!

Amazing results on upholstery clean in Cheltenham

We were recently contacted by a customer who was looking to have some upholstery cleaned. She had tried to clean the 6 dining chairs & a footstool herself but it had not improved the overall appearance.

After asking a few simple questions over the phone, we were able to give the customer a quotation for the work which she accepted. We then booked in a convenient time for the customer to have the clean carried out.

As you can see from the photo, the dining chairs were considerably stained, mainly with watermarks, probably from where the customer had tried to clean them herself.

Our technician, Pete set to work by applying some stain treatments & eco-sanitising pre spray. He then gave them time to dwell to help breakdown the soiling.

Next, Pete used a handheld rotary tool to gentle agitate the upholstery, working in cleaning solutions & hot water.

The last step in the cleaning process is the rinse extraction. This is where all the remaining cleaning solutions, water & soiling are removed from the chair.

As you can see, our tried & tested cleaning method had great results on the dining chairs.

The cleaning technique used above was then used on the footstool which was also heavily soiled. Again, Pete achieved some impressive results & had the upholstery looking so much cleaner & fresher, as shown in the before & after photos below.

Outstanding results on commercial carpet clean in Cheltenham

A few weeks before Christmas, we were contacted by a hostel in Cheltenham who were thinking about having the carpets cleaned in the communal areas. With any commercial enquires like this, we always recommend arranging for one of our trained technicians to come out & conduct a short survey before suppling you with a quote. This enables us to assess the condition & specific requirements of the carpets which means we can tailor the clean to suit your business needs & provide you with a comprehensive quote.

Within a week of the initial enquiry, our technician Pete visited the property & carried out a survey of all the carpets & provided the business with two separate quotes as they were deciding how they wanted to tackle the clean.

They decided to go ahead with having all the communal carpets cleaned rather than just the ground floor, and this week, less than 1 month from making contact, Pete returned with the help of Mike to carry out the clean.

The brief was to clean all 4.5 floors of stairs & hallways, most of which were heavily stained.

Commercial Carpet Cleaning

Communal area carpets endure a high level of wear over time. Outdoor soiling is tracked in on shoes, spills occur & because the space is no single persons responsibility, the dirt rapidly accumulates. This was certainly the case here, due to the heavy footfall & the magnitude of some of the staining on these carpets, a traditional rinse extraction was the method used to deliver the best possible results.

The first step in the process is to use a commercial vacuum to thoroughly vacuum the carpets to remove as much surface debris as possible.

Next, any notable stains are treated & an eco-sanitising pre-spray is applied to the carpets. These solutions are then given time to dwell in-order to break down the soiling.

Once sufficient time has elapsed for the stain treatments to have worked, the rotary agitation machine is used to gently agitate the carpets using hot water & cleaning solutions. This provides a thorough clean & also helps bring loosened soiling to the surface ready for rinse extraction.

The final part of the cleaning process is the traditional rinse extraction. This is where all the remaining soiling, water & cleaning solutions are removed from the carpets. As you can see from the photos either side, this tried & tested cleaning method bought out some truly amazing results.

Great results on commercial carpets & upholstery in Cheltenham

On Tuesday evening, two of our technicians were booked to clean commercial carpets & upholstery at The Brewery Quarter in Cheltenham. This was the result of a successful survey back in September which enabled us to provide the company with a quote & cleaning plan tailored to their requirements.

The brief was to clean seven short flights of stairs, plus all the small landings & turns in-between plus two large landings. As you can imagine these areas have a lot of foot traffic & would certainly benefit from a professional deep clean.

The first step (pardon the pun!) was to thoroughly vacuum all of these areas to remove any surface debris before they applied stain treatments & eco-sanitising pre-spray to them. These solutions were then given time to dwell so that they can break down & loosen as much dirt, grease & stains as possible.

The next step is to use rotary agitation to further loosen any remaining soiling as well as working the cleaning solutions into the carpets to allow for a rigorous clean.

The final part of our cleaning process is the traditional rinse extraction. This is where we use hot water to extract any remaining soiling or product residue from the carpets.

Once the carpets had been successfully tackled, it was time to start work on the upholstery. There were seven office chairs with a heavy soil load that were subject to the above cleaning method to ensure a good level of clean.

Once the clean was successfully completed, the carpets & upholstery were left to dry naturally overnight so everything was clean & dry for the office workers to return the following day. Upon completion, all of the carpets & upholstery have received the full professional cleaning method & have been sanitised, deodorised & left more resistant to staining as part of the process

Great results on carpet stains in Cheltenham

On a sunny Monday morning, our technician Pete was tasked with cleaning all of the carpets in a 2 bedroom house in Cheltenham. The customer had some notable stains on some of their light coloured woollen carpets which were a nice challenge for Pete to start the week on!

Natural materials such as wool tend not to yield up stains as well as synthetic, especially stains made by food & drinks as the dyes & acids present in these items can forever alter the colour of carpets.

Unfortunately, the customer has tried to clean the stain shown above herself using a shop bought stain remover. Often these types of products include a bleaching agent & as the photo above on the right shows, Pete managed to do a great job on the stain but the remaining white patches are where the shop bought product has bleached the carpet & left a permanent white mark.

Pete treated the stains & allowed the product to dwell to break up as much of the deposit as possible before he extracted it & used an effective detergent to get the best results possible.

The method for treating stains was repeated on the stains shown above, all achieving pleasing results.

Treating stains is a standard part of our cleaning process which normally includes;

  • Dry extraction/vacuuming
  • Spot/stain treatments, as necessary
  • Eco-sanitising pre-spray
  • Rotary agitation
  • Traditional rinse extraction (sometimes called steam cleaning)

I think that Pete did really well dealing with the carpet stains on this occasion, they may not of gone completely but they were significantly better than when he arrived & of course all the carpets within the house were cleaner, fresher & santised as well!

If you are prone to spillages, it may be worth reading a previous blog we wrote about the do’s & don’ts when accidents happen. It may not be Christmas anymore but the advice is still relevant! Carpet Stains This Christmas? Heres A List Of Do’s & Don’ts! | Green Man Cleaning

Gorgeous porcelain tiles receiving a deep clean in Cheltenham.

This week Pete and Joanne were working together to bring these porcelain tiles in Cheltenham back to their beautiful best.

Pete had initially attended in January to assess the tiles and discuss the clean with the customer. It was clear from the survey that this would require two technicians to achieve the best results.

After the flooring has been cleared as much as possible, it was time to start a thorough vacuuming and sweeping to remove any loose debris. The rotary agitator is then used, combined with some environmentally friendly solutions, to break down embedded soil and dirt to be lifted away and removed. With these tiles, the grout can often be an area in which dirt gathers and embeds. To address this, Pete and Joanne worked on the grout by hand to ensure dirt is lifted and can be removed.

The image above is a great example of how much soil can be embedded into tiles. Here you can see the right hand side has been cleaned and the left has not. Prior to the cleaning you would not have looked at the tiles and thought they were particularly soiled, the right hand side shows there was a significant amount of impacted dirt that was dulling the colour and shine of the tiles.

After all the soil has been lifted, a wet vacuum is used to extract all the dirt and water, and the flooring is then rinsed. Depending on the level of soiling sometimes this may need repeating.

After this process has been repeated as many times as is necessary to get them nice and clean they are left to dry, they can be forced dry using an air mover if necessary.

These tiles do not require sealing.

Tiles like these are a beautiful choice for any home, it is important to get them professionally deep cleaned in order to stop the accumulation of dirt that domestic home cleaning is not strong enough to prevent. Regular deep cleaning and resealing where needed can increase the lifespan of your tiles, meaning you get your tiles lasting longer and therefore get more for your money, as well as being more friendly to the environment.

Commercial Cleaning in Oxford

Commercial cleaning is largely about maintaining hygiene and an optimal standard of appearance for customers & workers alike. In a busy city centre coffee shop in OX1, the sofas & chairs experience a lot of use, as well as occasional spillages. We were instructed to carry out a full deep-clean on upholstery in the shop after closing.

It was already dark when we arrived and Gloucester Green Outdoor Market not long closed. Upholstery Cleaning in Oxford City Centre could have presented us with a logistical nightmare, but the parking Gods were with us 🙂

When we clean upholstery fabrics, we will usually carry out a pre-test to ensure the material is safe for “wet cleaning”. Commercial fabrics tend to be synthetic & fairly robust in order to withstand the greater use they have. This was the case here and a quick once over confirmed that the upholstery was suitable for rinse extraction cleaning.

In this image, our technician Pete is rinse extracting the sofa fabric.

Sometimes our customers think that this is the only process that is involved in an upholstery clean. In actual fact, it’s the final stage out of a series of processes all designed to remove the maximum amount of soil.

Our upholstery cleaning method involves:

  • Fabric pre-testing
  • Dry extraction (using Sebo BS36 & upholstery tool)
  • Spot/stain treatments
  • Application of pre-spray
  • Agitation using a soft brush
  • “Dwell time”
  • Traditional rinse extraction
  • Fabric re-grooming

The clean went extremely well.

The initial dry extraction removed the kind of debris you would expect might accumulate in a busy coffee shop.

We used a professional solution on the arms & edges of the sofa to help break down the greasy residue that builds up from lots of contact with human hands.

This is fairly typical in both commercial and domestic cleaning scenarios. It is more problematic on natural fibres, as they are more likely to have absorbed the problem within their fibres.

The one or two coffee stains (we had expected more) were treated with an acidic solution that addresses the familiar tannin brown stain and reduces it until it is invisible.

Once the spot/stain work was complete, we applied an appropriate pre-spray, brushed the solution in, gave it a reasonable “dwell” time, then rinse extracted.

Once the work was complete, we tented the upholstery to help accelerate the drying time, packed up our kit and headed back out onto Gloucester Green (where we had managed to park the van).

Beautiful transformation of flagstone flooring in Cheltenham.

Pete and Rob were back for another large job at the beautiful barn in Cheltenham that we wrote about recently, this time to rejuvenate these flagstones.

These flagstones are in a bar area of a popular wedding and entertainment venue, so understandably they have a lot of wear and tear, including drinks being spilt and walked over.

This creates a layer of what is known as ‘Blacktop’. When sugary drinks get spilt and dried, in spite of domestic cleaning, this sticky substance can remain and get moved around the floor with cleaning processes that are not quite thorough enough. This sticky substance attracts dirt and soil and creates this blackened appearance, as you can see in the image on the right.

Before deep cleaning of flagstones
Before deep cleaning of flagstones

Our process to remove this blacktop and bring these flagstones to their best involves;

  • – Sweeping to remove loose soil and dirt
  • – Rotary agitation of the flagstones using a specific solution to break down and remove blacktop and other embedded soil and grime. This solution is left to dwell on the floor before being removed to allow time for the solution to penetrate deep down.
  • – Manually scrubbing the grout
  • – Extract the slurry with a wet vacuum
  • – This process is then repeated where necessary
  • – The floors are then rinsed

As you can see from the image on the right, these flagstones are looking fresh and clean after Pete and Rob’s hard work.

Incredible rejuvenation of wooden flooring in a stunning barn in Cheltenham.

Beautiful flooring with a lovely view

Our technicians, Pete and Rob were given the challenge of rejuvenating these wooden floors at a beautiful barn location in Cheltenham.

This barn has hosted numerous events and occasions where drinks, food and general wear and tear has caused some marking and staining that needed addressing.

The initial process for this type of hard floor cleaning is to clear as much loose debris and soil, this is done initially by sweeping. A wood solution is then applied to the rotary agitator which is used with a white pad to clean the floor whilst agitating it to release any embedded soil and dirt.

This creates a slurry of dirty water which is collected using an extraction machine.
