Last week our technicians Pete and Rob visited an office block in Gloucester for some commercial carpet cleaning. As you can see there was some significant staining, that with our professional techniques we managed to remove.
Office carpets often get a lot of heavy use and footfall, our process of environmentally friendly carpet cleaning can get your office feeling like a much nicer place to be!
After a thorough vacuuming to remove as much of the dry soil as possible, and pre treating the heavy soiling and staining we use our rotary agitator.
The rotary agitator works by brushing the fibres in the carpets to bring all the deep, hidden dirt to the surface for removal. Our industrial machinery can get your carpets looking fresh and sanitised. Here you can see our technician Rob using this machine to ensure a rigorous yet environmentally friendly deep clean.
If you are struggling to find a commercial, or domestic carpet cleaning company local to you then look no further!
If you have any questions about our processes or what we can offer you please don’t hesitate to get in touch, you can do this on our contact us page.
When Tricel called us to survey to clean their office carpets in Gloucester, we were delighted to help. Tricel are manufacturers of a wide variety of core equipment for water treatment, as well as meter boxes & road safety. In industrial situations like these, we tend to find that there is a gradual cross-over of foot traffic between the manufacturing & administrative areas, leading to heavy build-ups of soiling over time.
Our initial survey had confirmed that the offices had areas of heavy foot traffic & would need traditional rinse extraction cleaning, as opposed to the less intensive low-moisture systems we sometimes offer commercial customers.
How we clean commercial carpets
Green Man spend considerable time training all technicians in the full spectrum of professional carpet cleaning, including the type of carpets we find in the industrial arena. As in this case, low-profile commercial carpeting is able to hide a heavy soil load & can present problems when drying, if you’re not aware of what you’re doing.
The “before & after” above demonstrates not just our ability to remove the coffee/ink/tea type of stains we encounter in a conference room scenario, but also a significant improvement in the general initial grubby appearance of the carpets. It should be said that almost every office we encounter suffers the same type of heavy use.
Only rinse extraction cleaning techniques will properly remove this level of soiling, as well as sanitise commercial carpets.
This will usually involve:
Industrial-grade vacuuming using Sebo BS36 & BS46’s
Detergent-free, soil lifting pre-spray
Rotary agitation
Spot/stain treatment
Traditional rinse extraction/ hot water extraction (aka steam cleaning)
Stair carpets are treated in the same way, but using a specific stair-tool to focus the cleaning power where it’s needed.
The finished result was very good & a huge quantity of soil was recovered from the carpets, which now have up to 2 years before they will need re-cleaning.
If you manage a commercial premises or are a facilities manager looking for some help maintaining the appearance of your property, please feel free to get in touch. We offer free surveys for all commercial work & are also able to offer consulting regarding cleaning regimes & solutions.
Out-of-hours carpet cleaning is a service we provide for commercial clients. A recent job was in a large double-glazing & door showroom in North Bristol. The carpet had suffered a high volume of foot traffic, as well as tracked in oil from the adjoining workshop.
Commercial carpet cleaning is often a balance between the need for efficient deep-cleaning whilst ensuring acceptable drying times. We don’t use truck-mounted Diesel engines to power our cleans – by using electric machines, we can eliminate local exhaust emissions, as well as ensure that at least some of the power behind our work is environmentally sourced.
Because of this, we need to ensure that the solutions & methodology we use works effectively. Commercial cleaning from Green Man is a covered by our honour guarantee and will often incorporate the use of low energy air-movers to deliver fast drying times.
Although low-moisture (encapsulation) cleaning is often specified for commercial carpets, the high soil load here meant that traditional hot water extraction was the only method likely to deliver a satisfactory result.
Our method was a fairly typical carpet clean:
Vacuuming
Spot/stain treatments
Application of eco-pre-spray
Rotary agitation
Traditional rinse extraction
The only additional was the use of an eco (corn-based) solvent to lift the adhesive residue from social-distancing stickers post-lockdown.
If you manage a commercial premises and are interested in a free, no-obligation survey of your carpet, upholstery or hard flooring, get in touch using our Contact page or by giving us a call.
As professional floor cleaners, the Green Man team are fortunate to be invited into beautiful homes quite often, and this contemporary farmhouse is no exception. Crafted around an English oak timber frame, this property is designed to impress.
Our task was to specify a full deep-clean of the wide range of flooring types throughout the home, then seal them to improve their visual impact and durability.

Professional Wood Cleaning & Polishing
Wood should generally not be wet-cleaned at all. Water will gradually wear down varnishes & other finishes, and then open the grain of most types of woods. However, from time to time (or after building work), sweeping will not be enough.
When wood requires a deep-clean, we have created a way of delivering a very good level of cleanliness without over-wetting a wooden floor. This involves:
Gentle, but effective mechanical agitation using a rotary machine
Minimal application of a wood-specific cleaning solution
Immediate vacuum extraction of the slurry
Forced drying
Once the floor is dry, we can then apply a suitable polish to protect the wood and improve its appearance.
Limestone tile cleaning
Professional Limestone Cleaning & Sealing
The limestone floors in this property consisted of black limestone installed in the large downstairs area & a lighter, more traditional limestone floor in the master en-suite bathroom. Both areas required a full deep-clean and manual scrubbing of the grout lines…

Professional Limestone Floor Sealing
The following day – once the stone & grout has completely dried – we returned to apply seals to the floor. The floor was sealed when it was installed (not that long ago), so our aim was to “top up” the pre-existing seal & add a topical seal to increase the reflectivity & surface protection of the tiles. Stone tiles should always be sealed with an impregnating seal, which is the first point of defence against spillages. After this has been carried out, it is then the aesthetic choice of the owner whether a higher gloss finish is desired.
In this case, a luxurious look was paramount, so our team applied two coats of a limestone floor gloss seal. We didn’t take many photos, but the one below gives an impression of the overall finish…
Professional Limestone Floor Sealing
In total, we cleaned & sealed:
3 x wooden floor bedrooms, 1 x wooden floor drawing room
1 x marble bathroom floor
1 x limestone bathroom, 1 x limestone exercise room, 1 x limestone kitchen/dining/ living area
1 x herringbone brick corridor & bathroom

A few week’s back, we were asked to survey for commercial hard floor cleaning in a pub in Bristol. The floor to be cleaned was a mixture of quarry tiles & flagstone/brick – all were in very poor condition and required serious work to bring them back to an acceptable condition.
Professional restoration clean of Quarry Tiles
Quarry tiles arehard non-porous paving tiles created from ground minerals which are formed into a tile shaped and fired just like bricks. The image below shows the condition before the clean –
As you can see, the areas of damage & the grout lines have become extremely greasy. Mopping will probably have exacerbated the problem by simply spreading slurry into the lower areas. Here, it dries out and the detergent leaves a sticky residue, attracting further soiling. Beer spillages are sticky anyway because of their high sugar content.
The only way to improve things here was to use a hot solution that would break the sugary, greasy deposits & agitate using a rotary machine and a manual grout brush…
The finished result?
While the imperfections in the tiles remain, the floor here is indisputably clean and looking much more hygienic!
Professional restoration clean of Flagstones
The flagstones in the pub were arranged around the bar area & had suffered the worst of the inevitable spillages…
In order to bring this area back to its best possible potential, we needed to stretch slightly beyond entirely eco-products & introduce a small, dilute amount of plant-based solvent to “cut into” the huge amount of grease & sugar deposits in the flooring.
Our eco-friendly ethos covers nearly every aspect of our work. When it is simply not possible to deliver a satisfactory result using our default environmentally friendly solutions, we will consult with our customer & discuss the options.
In this case, all that was needed was to increase the ph of the product used & to boost it with a citrus solvent (limonene). Oh, and to then clean the floor five times !!!
The finished result here ended up being some of the most spectacular “before & after” images we’ve ever posted.

The image above shows a “classic” iron burn. There’s no disguising what caused this & there’s no way the landlord is going to miss it. If you are a tenant and are concerned about losing a large chunk of your deposit over a moment’s distraction, get in touch.
As long as you have a similar (or preferably larger) size of spare carpet somewhere, we can help. This donor piece can also be cut from a cupboard or from under the stairs, if this is all there is.
While we cannot promise that the repair will be i n v i s i b l e, we will do our utmost to carry out a professional carpet repair so that it is as seamless as possible.

Once the work is complete, the insert is bonded to the carpet around it, not simply glued to the floor! This ensures a durable & secure repair that should last as long as the carpet surrounding it.

One of the benefits of having a large, well equipped team is that we can take on bigger projects –
This job involved 5 technicians and involved the rinse extraction cleaning of 9 floors of carpeted communal corridors & stairways in a large managed apartment block in central Bristol. Each technician carried a Sebo BS36 or BS46 commercial vacuum cleaner, a full spot & stain kit, pressure sprayer, 50′ of hoses & a professional rinse extraction machine.
Our client required the work to be carried out within the course of a single day to minimise disruption to the building’s tenants.

The Green Man team were sent to prison – but we cleaned up our act & were let out for good behaviour…
When we heard that a tv production company required an urgent deep-clean of concrete flooring in Shepton Mallett prison, we were quite intrigued. We offer a wide range of hard floor cleaning options to the commercial sector, but this might be our first prison! Also, because we operate a 6 van team, we are often able to accommodate large scale work at short notice.
Commercial floor cleaning in Somerset
The brief:
We were required to deep-clean the concrete floors in one of the prison canteen areas, as well as the floor of one of the original large wings of this notoriously grim Victorian prison.
Professional vinyl floor cleaning
When we arrived, we quickly realised that neither of the floors to be cleaned were concrete!
They were both dulled down and of a dour grey appearance, so it was an honest mistake.
The initial survey revealed that they were hard-wearing vinyl floors.
During the short survey, we also learned that the prison is supposed to be very haunted… …
Preparing the surface
The floor in the canteen appeared to have been recently laid, perhaps by the Art Department of the production & was not glued to the sub-floor. There was a large amount of loose debris on the surface, which we swept & removed.
Professional hard floor cleaning
Applying a pre-spray
This type of flooring will usually respond well to an alkali cleaning solution. We mixed this but, unusually, but did not apply with a pressure sprayer…
Agitation
The level of soiling on the floors in both areas suggested that we would need to agitate the floor relatively aggressively. For this task, we used a Numatic Hurricane rotary machine with a green scrubbing pad – these type of floor pads come in a variety of colours indicating varying levels of abrasion. Because of the large area to be covered, we attached a solution tank to the machine, meaning we could apply the cleaning solution simultaneously while scrubbing the floors.
Hard floor cleaning
Extraction
We worked as a two-man team: one of us applied solution & scrubbed the floor, the other followed behind with a commercial Numatic wet-vac, picking up the slurry.

The result
Although we didn’t take many “before & after” images, the photos below give an indication of what was achieved. Both areas had significant amounts of loose material on top of a high level of soiling.
By specifying an efficient & effective method, we were able to restore the floors to a good level of cleanliness that would also look good on camera.

Towards the end of last year, we were asked to survey the commercial shop floors at Longleat. As with the sweet shop we cleaned a few weeks ago, these large areas of carpet are made of Flotex. This is a completely synthetic material that can be printed on to give it many different appearances.
The brief: We were tasked with cleaning one very large commercial floor and a medium sized floor as efficiently as possible. The floors needed to be properly deep-cleaned, but dry as quickly as possible.
Large carpet cleaning teamCommercial carpet cleaning
The method: In order to complete the work within a day, we sent 4 vans to Longleat. Each van contains a full set of professional carpet cleaning equipment, but we worked in pairs to carry out the work:
All four of us vacuumed the floor space to begin with. Owing to the huge number of fibres per metre on Flotex, it is able to conceal an enormous soil-load. Effective vacuuming will remove up to 79% of dry soils, so this was an important stage.
We then applied an eco-friendly pre-spray.
We then used both a rotary machine & a CRB (contra-rotating brush) machine to agitate the cleaning solution & further break up any stubborn soiling
Rotary agitation of Flotex flooring
Agitation of Flotex floor using a crb machine
Once complete, we left a set of commercial air-movers & dehumidifiers to ensure rapid drying.
Quick dry commercial carpet cleaning
The result: The water recovered from the carpets was nearly black. This is the great trick of Flotex – it can appear quite bright & acceptable, while storing a vast amount of heavy soiling.
That said, when I returned later to pick up our drying kit, muddy footsteps were already visible on the entrance areas of each shop, owing to the two named storms over the weekend!

A few week’s ago, we were called out to a cottage alongside the River Wye in Chepstow. A pipe fitting beneath the upstairs bath had failed, eventually causing the living room ceiling to collapse.

The initial mess of ruined plasterboard had already been cleared by the owner, so our role was to assess the situation & implement drying measures so that this room could be mended & redecorated as soon as possible.
Step 1: Survey
The first thing to do was to investigate exactly where the water had travelled & what materials it had affected. In this case, moisture readings showed significant absorption of water in several of the walls, particularly where plasterboard was fixed over existing brick walls. The carpet was ruined & would need removal.

Step 2: Remove damaged/saturated materials
Once we had lifted the carpet & removed it, we could see the state of the floor beneath. In this case, the floor was OSB board over joists-
The area of a flood shown clearly on the affected floor
You can see in the image how clearly the moisture shows in this absorbent material. There was a removable panel in the floor (top right of the image) which allowed us to investigate the void beneath. This showed there was bare soil below.
Interestingly, as this property was on the river bank, we would expect higher than average moisture readings throughout the property, particularly as it was build before the era of damp proof courses & vapour barrier membranes.
Once we had removed the carpet & underlay, we were able to spray the areas of damp with an anti-fungal solution to arrest any potential growth of black mould. This was not likely, given the low temperatures at the moment, but is worth doing as a preventative measure.
This video shows the initial emplacement of dehumidifiers & air movers-
Note how we have used ducting to channel the dry air into the small cavities between the plasterboard and brick walls.

Once the equipment had been installed, we explained to the home owner how to turn it off when needed and arranged a series of return visits to monitor the drying.
As we left, the stillness of the River Wye made for a spectacular reflection of Chepstow Castle.
Thanks for reading!
