Last week saw two of our technicians spend a productive day cleaning & sealing a customer’s hard floor. They had a lovely slate floor spanning the kitchen, hallway & lounge area, altogether covering around 75 square metres and it was looking a little dull & tired.
Prior to our arrival, we asked the customer to clear the floor areas as much as possible & to remove any kickboards, which allows us to provide a more thorough clean in the corners of the kitchen.
On arrival, our technician started by sweeping the floors to remove any surface debris. Then they use a weighted rotary machine which applies hot water & a good quality stone cleaner to the tiles & grout. We generally use Ecoprotec Stone & Tile Intensive Cleaner.
The bottom of the rotary can be manually changed to have cleaning pads & brushes on with differing levels of abrasion to suit the particular floor we are working on.

Although the rotary machine does clean the grout lines, it does not always get into the grooves completely so the best way to achieve this is for our technicians to get down on their hands & knees. They can then clean the grout lines using a specific grout brush to ensure a thorough clean to achieve a more uniform finish.
The next step in the process is to use a wet vac to remove all the remaining slurry that the rotary machine has created.
Air-movers are then used to force dry the floor ready for sealing.

Once the floors are dry, the deep clean is complete & the floors have been brought back to the best possible condition. To complete the process, an impregnating seal from Ecoprotec is used. This is our go-to product when sealing hard floors as it does not change the character of the surface & is great for protecting against staining as well as repelling water, oil & grease. The customer had previously expressed concern with some minor scratches on his flooring & this seal is also designed to fill in minor scratches & diminish their visibility.
Our technicians were so busy that they forgot to get any photos of the finished floor, but rest assured it looked great & the customer was very happy!
