Sisal carpets are known for being a natural, sustainable option when buying new carpets. Made from natural plant based materials, many consider them to being a strong & durable flooring option & sisal is often recommended for high traffic areas. However, sisal is also an incredibly absorbent material that is prone to staining.
Whilst sisal carpets can be cleaned, it is important to manage expectations from the outset with this material – if there are any notable stains or heavy traffic marking, the cleaning method is unlikely to remove them.
In the industry, it’s referred to as VLM (Very Low Moisture) cleaning & involves the application, agitation, then dry extraction of a cleaning compound. This will lightly clean & freshen up sisal.

Last week, we were tasked with cleaning the sisal carpets in the hall, stairs & landing in a Bristol property.
The first step in the cleaning process is to thoroughly vacuum the carpets to remove any surface soiling. The sisal specific compound is then evenly distributed by hand across the carpets & the Pro35 CRB machine it then used which agitates the compound deep into the sisal fibres. Once the compound is dry, it is recovered along with any absorbed dirt into the recovery trays.

The carpets are then vacuumed again to remove any further compound, often there will be some residual compound left behind in the carpets & this is removed over time as the customer vacuums.
Once complete the customer was very happy with the results & her carpets were certainly looked fresh & improved.
