Subsequent to a successful upholstery clean at a property in Bath after a ceiling had collapsed owing to an escape of water, the customer enquired about wood floor sanding in their property which we were happy to provide them with a quote for. The floor was in fairly poor condition with quite a lot of woodworm, replacement boards, gaps & damage, however we agreed that it was worth a go to even out the floor & provide ongoing protection & nourishment. It was also more cost effective for the customer to go down this route rather than replacing the floor.
The first stage of the sanding was to sand the floor at 40 grit to remove a lot of the imperfections & level it as the floor was very uneven. We sanded with a weighted machine at a low grit which enables us to get the floor fairly uniform, for this task we used the Bona Flexisand machine, a Pallman edging machine & Festool orbital sander for the finer details.
We sanded up to 120 grit & we use a Hepa filter dust extraction to provide dustless system. The initial sanding took all of our first day at the property & we then put down the first coat of Osmo Polyx oil in the honey tint using the specialist Osmo brush system which allows us to apply the very thin coats that are required to achieve a good finish.
When we arrived for day 2, we carried out de-nibbing. This is where the grain of the wood can often raise up after the first coat of finish has been applied as it absorbs the moisture & these need knocking back. In order to do this, our technician put a very high grit of 180 on the machine & quickly went over the floor to remove it. The floor was then thoroughly vacuumed & we then applied the 2nd coat of oil which was then left to dry naturally.
As shown in the photos above, the customers wooden floor is looking great. It now has a more uniformed finish & certainly looks brighter & healthier.
