A few week’s back, we sanded the old pine floorboards in a lovely cottage on the edge of Chippenham.

The boards were nearly a hundred year’s old but, despite some areas of historic woodworm damage, were pretty level. For this reason, we decided to not use the belt sander, but complete the main bulk of the work with our Bona Flexisand machine. It carries its own dust extraction system and delivers “direction free sanding”. This enables us to deliver a very fine level of finish.
Attention to detail…

Professional wood floor sanding is a demanding process that demands attention to detail. In the images above, you can see the Pallman edge sander being used to get beneath the radiator & directly against the skirting boards. This process is then repeated with each change in sandpaper grit, from coarse to fine.

The existing finish on this floor was a dark brown varnish, it had been on the wood for around twenty years. We set-up the sanding machine on grit 50 and soon revealed the freshness of the pine beneath.
In the background, beyond our tech, is a Festool dust extraction machine. Here, it’s connected to a small orbital sander being used for fine details in the corners & edges.
By investing in good quality dust extraction equipment, we significantly improve the air quality for both our technicians & customers and, of course, create a lot less mess!
The end product…
Unusually, our customer had decided to apply the finish themselves. Having sanded and finished the floor twenty years previously, it made sense that they would be able to carry this out. We supplied them with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil (English Oak tint) and here are the BEFORE & AFTERS…
